Old Shiloh Cemetery
Dexter, Cooke County, Cemeteries of Texas
Submitted by Randy Morse
I recently went to Dexter Texas on a grave hunt for my great grandmother Sarah Elizabeth "Lizzie" Horn-Carter-Moss-Morse's grave, no luck yet. But anyway, I took a few photo's of what's left of Dexter town and of the Old Shiloh Cemetery in Dexter. This cemetery is in really bad shape, overgrown with trees, bushes, etc, The worst I have seen. The trees are pushing what stones are there over. There are quite of few graves there, A lot of them only marked with sand stone rocks that have sunken to the point there getting hard to see. I'm sending you these photo's if you would like to post them on your cemetery site feel free to. I will be going back there soon, these photo's come out ok, but could have come out better if the lighting was right, but being in the trees made it dark and difficult. Anyone wanting to see this cemetery must get a hold of Jerry Perry, he lives down the road he is the land owner.
The cemetery is located on 1 mile north of Dexter on County road 100,You take County road 103 in Dexter to County road 100 and go east 8/10ths of a mile back east and it's way off the road on the left and not very visible because it's in a grove of trees.
One of these photo's is of Eliza Carter Oct-14-1852 - Jan-31-1873 wife of B.F. Carter. The others kind of show you how it's grown up in trees. Well have a great day. Regards Randy Morse
