    Thomas Nelson Tackett III died quietly
    November 8, 2004, at the Summit at Westlake Hills Health Center in Austin.  
    Born August 10, 1923, in Dallas, Mr. Tackett spent his early years in Emory
    and graduated from Greenville High School in 1940. After commuting to East
    Texas State in Commerce, he transferred to the University of Texas in Austin
    where he joined the U.S. Navy as part of the V12 program and served in the
    Pacific Theater of World War II.  Graduating from the university with a
    degree in Chemical Engineering in 1948, he joined Union Carbide Corporation
    at its plant in Texas City and resided in Galveston until his promotion to
    the corporate headquarters in New York City in 1962. After 23 years, Mr.
    Tackett retired as the Manager of Chemicals and Plastics Purchases, a
    position of worldwide scope.  Mr. Tackett was a member of Tau Beta Pi,
    Omega Chi Epsilon, Phi Lambda Upsilon, the American Institute of Chemical
    Engineers, the National Association of Purchasing Managers, and the
    Chancellor’s Council of the University of Texas System.  Married in
    1965, Mr. Tackett is survived by his wife of almost 40 years, Marlene Sowers
    Tackett; his son and daughter-in-law, William “Jeff” and Tyna Tackett of
    Beasley, Texas; daughter Elise Tackett of Austin; and four grandchildren,
    Ginger Juelfs, James Thomas Tackett, Malinda “Faythe” Tackett and Kayla
    Kolojaco; his brother William and wife Mildred and sister Helen, and two
    nieces.  Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, November
    11, 2004, at Weed-Corley-Fish Chapel. Interment was at 1:00 p.m. on Friday,
    November 12, 2004, at Pecan Grove Memorial Park in McKinney, Texas.  In
    lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Friends of
    Alec, Dept. of Engineering, The University of Texas in Austin, the Salvation
    Army or a charity of personal choice.
