Funeral services were held for Kenneth Nall Oct. 20 at the First Baptist Church of Wylie. Dr. A. L. Draper officiated.
Pallbearers were Jerry Hunter, Patrick Minihan, Josh Nall, Richard Parker, Sam Satterwhite and Don Whitt. Honorary Pallbearers were Brett Barry, Gary Bowland, Wayne Campbell, Matt Conoly, Morgan Conoly, Raymond Cooper, Harry Darby, Ben Groves, Ken Lane, Steve Reid and James Wright. Interment followed at the Wylie Cemetery.
Mr. Nall passed away Oct.17, 2006, at the age of 62. He was born Oct. 4, 1944, in Dallas to Frances and Mildred Nall. Mr. Nall and his family moved to Wylie when he was in the eighth grade. Wylie became a lifelong home for him. Mr. Nall graduated from Wylie High School in 1963. Mr. Nall married his high school sweetheart, Mary Ann Groves, June 26, 1964, in Wylie. They were married for 42 years. They raised their daughters Stacey and Christi, who still live in Wylie with their families. Mr. Nall’s grandchildren were the joy of his life. He looked forward to their Sunday family lunches always welcoming their friends with an extra plate on the table. Megan, his granddaughter even said that not only was he their Papa, he was Wylie’s Papa.
Mr. Nall was the owner of the Wylie Hardware Store which he ran with his brother, Bobby Nall for 17 years. The hardware store became a meeting place for Wylie’s finest to discuss the weather, the community, and of course, Wylie football. Mr. Nall sold the hardware store and retired in November 2003.
Mr. Nall was also the plant manager for Johnston Manufacturing in Wylie for 17 years prior to purchasing the hardware store. Although managing 200 women could be a challenge at times, the employees became an extended family for him. Mr. Nall hired many teenagers for the summers, who quickly realized that going off to college would be better than working in the hot factory.
Mr. Nall loved all sports and was a loyal Wylie fan and supporter throughout his life. He was a Wylie Pirate himself in high school playing football and basketball. He was also given an award for not missing a single Wylie football game for 25 years in 1988. Until the week preceding his death, you would find him on Row R, Seat 23, at every home game. During halftime, you would see him under the stands waiting for his grandchildren for a short visit and to give them popcorn and soda money.
KC, as he was known by his friends, treasured the friendships that he shared throughout the years. Mr. Nall and Mary Ann enjoyed many trips and Saturday night dinners with their special group of friends. Mr. Nall enjoyed playing golf with both old and young partners and participated in many community golf tournaments. Even though his age and handicap increased, he still managed to win a few tournaments.
Mr. Nall was a member of the Wylie Lions Club, Wylie City Council and served as Mayor pro tem of Wylie at one time. He served an active role in the community coaching Little League or watching his daughters and grandchildren play sports in the stands.
Mr. Nall touched many people during his life. He was known by his quick wit and friendly smile. When people think of Mr. Nall, they will remember him by a funny story that they shared with him. He will be missed by all.
Mr. Nall is survived by his wife, Mary Ann Nall, of Wylie; daughter Stacey Cobb and husband Mike, Christi Keisler and husband Barry of Wylie; mother, Mildred Nall and his father, the late Frances Nall of Garland; grandchildren, Megan Warren, Madison Warren, Austin Keisler, Haylee Keisler, Kelly Cobb and Sean Cobb; brothers, Ronnie Nall of Plano, Donald Nall of Lindale, and Bobby Nall of Lake Tawakoni, numerous nieces and nephews, and many friends.
