Collinsworth Cemetery, located on private property
South of Parker Road on Ohio Drive in Plano,
Texas (This is a old cemetery, not
previously listed.) It began after an epidemic of smallpox in 1895, after a
salesman spent the night at the Milt Collinsworth home. Changing of the bed
linen spread the
illness to others. The illnesses resulted in West Plano being quarantined, but
it was mostly the Collinsworth family who died. "Respectful mourners
crowded the contagious houses of the dead, and more sickness spread. The doctor
of the time, did not know how to treat the disease and wrongly prescribed
medicine to keep people from breaking out. The Collinsworth bodies had to be
interred at night to prevent spread of contamination." -Plano Texas, the
Early Years. by Frances Wells. Info by Gary Webb
C Carpenter Johnson, HOA of Preston Lakes and Collin County Master Gardeners are working on this cemetery to add color through wildflowers (planted), bulbs (to be installed soon) and other landscaping through the HOA of the surrounding neighborhood. |
