Opal Elizabeth Mayes, 87, of New Boston died Thursday, July 22, 1999, in a Texarkana hospital.

Mrs. Mayes was born August 30, 1911, in Bogata, Texas. She was a homemaker and member of McKenzie Methodist Church, Clarksville, Texas, American Legion Auxiliary and Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary. She was preceded in death by her husband, Claude C. Mayes, in 1983 and one great-granddaughter, Chassidy Mayes, in 1995.

Survivors include two daughters, Bobbie McClaran of New Boston and Sharon Kay Bruce of Sims, Texas; three sons, Charles Mayes and Steve Mayes of New Boston and Ricky Mayes of Killeen, Texas; One brother, Sheppard Mauldin of Sulphur Springs, Texas; one sister, Stella Varner of Friona, Texas; 18 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews. Services will be 2pm today at Bates-Rolf Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev Jimmy Ramsey officiating. Burial will be in Pulaski Cemetery. Memorials ay be made to the American Cancer Society and the American Heart Association.
